The group had many concerns relating to the proposed playground and village hall to be sited in Central Mead. Many reasons were stated as to why the playground would be a significant burden on the community and there was good support for the suggestion that such a facility should replace the aged equipment in May Close, being nearer to where most people live and would be more cost effective.
Concerns were raised as to the way that children/teenagers currently use Central Mead and the adjacent woods which are owned by the Old Smithy which was felt wasn’t managed very well.
The Parish Council is responsible for the upkeep of Central Mead. It was stated that the school was not able to have their sports day on Central Mead this year because the Parish Council had not monitored the state of the field, which left it in an unsafe and unusable state.
It was stated by the group that both the proposed playground and the proposed village hall were separate projects run by two charities, however the planning applications were submitted by the Parish Council. It was agreed that there seemed to be potential conflict of interest and misrepresentation with the Chair and Clerk of the Parish Council, both holding decision making positions in the running of these charities. Members asked for specific details and Colin agreed to provide full details which will be uploaded to a new GRABA website, coming soon.
