The New Toilets in the public car park are an improvement compared to the former toilets. They are the responsibility of the Parish Council. It was pointed out that they are funded through the council precept and that every household in the village pays on average a little under £20 a year for them to exist.
The agreement, at the time the new toilets were commissioned, was for them to be a free facility. It was felt that charging for their use would cause some members of the public to walk into various local businesses and use their free facilities.
At some point the Parish Council made the decision to charge for the toilets. It is unclear who made that decision and when it was made.
Currently cash is needed to use them and a request was made at a Parish Council meeting for a ‘card swipe’ facility to be installed, this has still not been done. The Parish Council have been collecting money from the toilet use. The amount is estimated in the region of £100 a week, although that figure may have dropped recently, due to people holding the door open for the next person in the queue, so they do not need to pay.
There was also a written request as to whether there was any possibility of discussions with the Old Smithy regarding having their car parking space available in the evenings.
